Springtime Forest Bathing Experience
Do you hear the calling of the birds? Does the scent of fresh spring air make you giddy and hopeful? Do you crave slow time and me time?
I do feel all of the above. And I also feel this tingling energy of Spring coming. My senses become alert to the new sights of buds. Colours start to slowly show themselves and I also feel like starting something fresh and new.
I’m offering this forest bathing experience in English as something fresh and new in the Budapest scene of events.
You might wonder about forest bathing. What does this expression hold? What is happening on such a walk?
All you may whish to know about this event...
What is forest bathing?
A forest bathing walk is a multi-sensory, mindful and relaxing experience, where we consciously slow down, engage our senses, connect with land, nature and the more-than-human world. It is a group experience, where forest bathing people enjoy invitations. There is a sense of belonging present in these walks: a belonging to the land and nature, a belonging and connectedness with yourself and your fellow walkers. Invitations are means to get in touch with the natural world on forest bathing walks.
We follow a standard sequence of events on these walks. We get acquainted with the story and structure of forest bathing; we get to know each other participating in the given walk, we move beyond the threshold (a.k.a: we move further in the wilderness through a symbolic / real threshold).
Invitations unfold on our forest bathing walk: slowing down, movement, senses, scent, conscious presence become our main thing.
We do sharing circles, yet the forest bathing walk is done mostly in sacred silence.
Start afresh! I invite you to a space of nature, nurture, human-plant-animal world and the more-then-human world.
Do I need to bring swimwear?
This is a frequently asked, humorous question that stems from the literal meaning of the word “bath.” However, during forest bathing there is rarely any actual bathing in the physical sense — and even then it’s optional. The term is more abstract, similar to sunbathing, bathing in joy, or taking part in a sound bath — only with the forest instead of sun or sound.
How is this different from a hike or meditation?
Forest bathing is not a hike and it’s not meditation. In a forest bathing walk, we do not cover long distances; the aim of the program is not about the “there,” but rather about the “here.” I also wouldn’t strictly call it meditation, even though the technique does include many mindfulness elements.
In meditation, nature is often treated as background or a supportive decoration. In contrast, during forest bathing we do not regard the forest or meadow merely as environment — we regard them as living beings, as life in motion, capable of breathing, feeling, and forming connection.
Ultimately, forest bathing is a living connection with life both outside and inside ourselves — with the inner nature and the more-than-human world.
What is forest bathing good for?
Reconnecting with nature through forest bathing has a number of scientifically supported beneficial effects on health, such as:
-
stress reduction
-
immune system strengthening
-
mood improvement
In general, through these effects forest bathing may support the prevention of many civilization-related conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, hormonal and digestive disorders, degenerative diseases, anxiety and mood disorders, social isolation, burnout and attention difficulties) as well as complementary support in therapeutic contexts.
How would I know if it is my thing?
Forest bathing is fundamentally a well-being–enhancing form of practice, so anyone can do it. You might especially like it if any of the following are true for you:
- You would like to improve your relationships, or you feel lonely or burdened by conflict
- You feel your life is too stressful and you long for calm
- You suffer from stress-related symptoms
- You want to break out of the fast, digital, urban routine
- You feel joyless about your work or life, or feel it lacks meaning
- You are seeking healing in nature, especially for stress-related or psychological concerns
- You value self-development and self-understanding
What happens on a forest bathing walk?
During a shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) walk:
-
We keep silence,
-
We awaken your senses,
-
We slow down, relax, and connect deeply with nature.
You will experience simple yet rich exercises that support peace, presence, and connection. At the end, we come together to share experiences and reflect — often with tea — to help integrate what you encountered and support re-entry into daily life.
Who guides this experience?
Kata stepped on her forest bathing guide journey once she moved closer to the forest. It was a seemingly subtle, yet remarkable change in her life. Nature connection became the lifeline, the meaning, the support she needed in times of adversaries. She found solace, peace, joy, childish amusement in the woods. Her compassion grew and grew towards all more-then-human beings, and it is still expanding on a grand level.
Her act of service and love for the natural world fuells actions of compassion.
Where will the walk be and how should I prepare?
The specific location will be shared when the walk is confirmed, as it can vary from event to event. Your preparation will also depend on the season and weather — but the detailed list of what to bring (gear, clothing, etc.) is always included in the event info sent by email once registration closes a few days before the walk.
Client feedbacks
“I feel calmer, and I can connect more deeply with myself and with nature.”
(Ági)
“My first group Shinrin-yoku walk with Évi was life-turning and mind-shaping. That was when I became conscious of everything that later helped me return to the present — during my voluntary pilgrimage and in the independent breakaways I’ve taken since.”
(Attila)
“The things illuminated by the guide received greater emphasis, which made the connection with everything much deeper.”
(Misi)
“This is not a hike, but a true bathing in the calm of the forest.”
(Luca)
“The difference is the sense of calm. It’s already Wednesday today, and the feeling is still with me.”
(Adrienn)
“It was a wonderful 2.5 hours of connection — something everyone should try. I had interesting, new sensations and experiences simply because the guide helped shift my attention elsewhere. I had never thought to ‘look’ at the forest this way before — though the right word is rather to feel it. And for that, I am grateful.”
(Ildi)
How much does forest bathing cost?
The participation fee for a guided 2.5-hour forest bathing walk is 12,000 HUF per person.
If you register as a pair, we offer a 1,000 HUF discount per person, so the total participation fee is 21,000 HUF for two people.
In some cases, when the walk is offered as a half-day, workshop-style program, the participation fee may be higher (for example, in the case of the Year-Closing Forest Bathing experience).
If something comes up…
Sometimes unexpected things happen. In such cases, you have the option to cancel your participation in the program; however, this does not always mean that the full participation fee can be refunded.
For forest bathing walks, the cancellation deadline is 48 hours before the walk, as this is when we finalize the group size.
If you cancel more than 48 hours before the program starts, we will refund the full participation fee, minus the cost of the card payment transaction (approximately 300–900 HUF per participant), within 8 days.
Please note that the right of withdrawal does not apply to services already provided, and within 48 hours prior to the start of the purchased service, withdrawal is only possible upon payment of a penalty equal to the full participation fee.
(This does not apply in cases of force majeure, meaning an unforeseeable and unavoidable event.)
In the event of a cancellation within 48 hours, if we also consider the reason justified, we may offer you the opportunity to join another forest bathing walk as a participant.
If you cancel without providing a reason, and the cancellation is not due to any fault on our part, we are unfortunately unable to refund the participation fee.
